Roads and landmarks around Kansas City, KS in Wyandotte County
Kansas City, Kansas is the west side of the same metro, and the state line changes nothing about the call except which agency runs the scene. The freight work sits in three places: the Fairfax district on the river bend, where docks and terminals run round the clock; the I-70 and I-435 interchange out by the Speedway, where distribution traffic comes on and off the interstate; and the Argentine yard and the Turner Diagonal, the truck route that feeds it.
Tell us which side of the state line you are on and which road. I-70 starts its mile markers over at the line, while I-435 and I-635 carry their Kansas numbering on into Missouri, so a marker alone can put you on the wrong side.

How to give a tow truck directions in KCK
The Kansas River meets the Missouri at Kaw Point, and on its way there it runs right through Kansas City, Kansas, so the first thing we need from you in KCK is which bank you are on. Argentine is on the south side: northbound on I-635 from Johnson County, you pass Metropolitan Avenue and the K-32 and Kansas Avenue exit, cross the river into central KCK and reach I-70 almost at once. The 18th Street Expressway crosses the river on a bridge of its own. Give us the bank and the last exit you passed, and the driver can plan the approach before crossing the state line.
Two of KCK’s main roads go by two names, so give us whichever one you can see. The 7th Street Trafficway is signed as US-169 and the 18th Street Expressway as US-69, and both meet I-70. In the older parts of the city, Strawberry Hill, Armourdale and Rosedale among them, a landmark can do more than a house number. In Rosedale, the Rosedale Arch stands on Mount Marty above the corner of Rainbow and Southwest Boulevards, a small copy of the Arc de Triomphe dedicated to the city’s World War I servicemen, and nobody mistakes it for anything else.
From its I-635 exit, shared with North 38th Street, Leavenworth Road carries K-5 west to I-435, past the Bethel neighborhood, while State Avenue and Parallel Parkway have I-635 exits of their own. Out on I-435, Village West sits where it meets I-70, around the Kansas Speedway, and took in what used to be the quiet Maywood neighborhood; Piper is inside the city limits too. On a road as long as Leavenworth Road, the name alone will not find you, but the numbered cross street will.
What we send in KCK: flatbeds, heavy wreckers and roadside help
A car that quits on State Avenue and a loaded tractor-trailer stopped on I-70 at Village West go through the same dispatch, and what we send depends on the vehicle. Cars, pickups and vans go on a rollback flatbed. Semi tractors, loaded trailers, buses and full-size straight trucks go behind the heavy wrecker or our second heavy-duty tow unit, and that side of the work, from the Lewis and Clark Viaduct to the Fairfax docks, is set out on our page for heavy-duty and semi towing in Kansas City, KS. Either way, you know which truck is coming before it crosses the state line.
Not every call ends with a tow. For cars, pickups and vans we offer roadside assistance where we can, and for semis the mobile diesel mechanic comes to the truck, so a flat on Parallel Parkway or a tractor with an air leak at an Armourdale dock may be sorted where it sits. When the fault is beyond a roadside fix, the flatbed or the wrecker comes on the same call, because one towing company handles both, and it takes the vehicle to any garage or dealer you name, in KCK or across the line, or to our yard in Liberty.
Kansas City, Kansas is the seat of Wyandotte County, and the county’s other towns are covered on our Wyandotte County towing page: Bonner Springs, where I-70 becomes the Kansas Turnpike, and Edwardsville on K-32. If you are not sure whether you have crossed out of KCK into one of them, give us the road and the last exit or cross street you passed, and we will sort out where you are on the phone before the truck leaves the yard.

Towing in Kansas City, KS: common questions
Do you tow in Kansas City, Kansas?
Yes, 24 hours a day, from our yard in Liberty, Missouri, across the state line into Wyandotte County and the roads that feed it: I-70, I-635, I-435, I-35 and the Turner Diagonal. We tow heavy, medium and light duty, run winch-outs and recovery, and repair many trucks at the roadside instead of towing them. Kansas registration or a Kansas-based fleet makes no difference to us. Tell us which side of the line you are on and which road: the I-70 mile markers restart at the state line but the I-435 and I-635 markers do not, so a marker alone can put you in the wrong state.
Can you get into the Fairfax district or the Argentine yard?
Yes. Fairfax is a working industrial district with docks and river terminals running around the clock, and the problems there are dock and yard problems: a trailer that will not come off a dock plate, a tractor that will not build air, a unit that has sunk on soft ground near the river. The Argentine yard is private rail ground, so for a call there tell us the gate and whether a name needs to be on a visitor list, because access is what delays those jobs, not the drive.
My GPS just says Kansas City. How do I know whether I’m in KCK?
Look at the state route shields and the neighborhood names. Kansas puts a K in front of its state highway numbers, so a sign for K-5, K-7 or K-32 means you are on the Kansas side. Interstate and US shields cross the state line unchanged, so on their own they will not settle it. Neighborhood names give it away too: Argentine, Armourdale, Rosedale, Strawberry Hill, Quindaro Bluffs, Piper and Turner are all in KCK. When you call, read us whatever signs you can see, and we will work out which Kansas City you are in before anyone is sent.
Can you change a flat on I-635 in KCK, or is that too risky?
Often we can, but where the car is sitting decides it. A tire change is part of the roadside assistance we do for cars, pickups and vans in KCK, along with jump starts and lockouts, where we can. On I-635 it comes down to the shoulder: the interstate crosses the Kansas River, the Missouri River and the rail yard in Argentine on bridges, and a car stopped on one of those, or on a strip too tight to work beside traffic, is safer on a rollback flatbed, with the tire changed somewhere with room. Say which way you were heading and which bridge or exit you can see.
My tractor quit on the Turner Diagonal in KCK. Will the service truck come, or the wrecker?
That depends on what the tractor is doing, and we will sort it out with you on the phone before either one leaves. An air leak, a dead battery, a failed starter or alternator, a coolant leak, a trailer lighting fault or a flat is work for the mobile service truck, which is a diesel mechanic that comes to you, and it gets fixed where you stopped. An engine that has to come apart, a transmission, or anything that needs a lift goes behind the heavy wrecker instead. The Turner Diagonal carries trucks between I-70 and K-32, so give us your direction and the nearest cross street or business.
