Bad rigging wrecks loads and hurts people. Recovery is the part of this job where training is the whole difference.

Definitely recommend Titan Tow. I called him to help me lift my food trailer onto a patio after multiple people said it couldn’t be done. He was punctual and professional. Thank you again!

Winch-outs & recovery where you need it

Kansas City

A recovery is a rigging problem, not a strength contest. The angle, the anchor and the sequence are what decide whether the unit comes out undamaged.

Winch-outs & recovery in Kansas City

St. Joseph

St. Joseph sits on the Missouri River with farm fields past the edge of town, and the two catch trucks in different ways. River bottom stays soft long after the water has gone; a field beside a rural interchange looks firm until a loaded axle breaks through the crust. The ground decides where the anchor goes before anything is pulled.

A loaded tractor-trailer is not a bigger car. It needs a rated wrecker, a rated operator and a plan before anything gets hooked. That is what we send.

Winch-outs & recovery questions

What is a winch-out service?

A winch-out is pulling a vehicle that is stuck but otherwise fine back onto ground it can drive on, using a tow truck's winch. The truck is anchored on firm footing, and it is the job for mud, snow, a soft shoulder, a median or a shallow ditch. Nothing is lifted and nothing is towed away: once the vehicle is back on a surface that will carry it, it usually drives off under its own power. When the vehicle is on its side, badly angled, damaged or loaded in a way that makes a straight pull unsafe, the job stops being a winch-out and becomes a recovery, which takes more equipment and more planning.

What is the difference between towing and recovery?

Towing moves a vehicle that is already sitting on its wheels on the pavement. Recovery is the work of getting it there first: winching it out of a ditch, uprighting it after a rollover, or separating a jackknifed unit or dealing with a shifted load without adding damage. Titan Tow & Repair plans and rigs a recovery before anything is pulled, and it very often ends in a tow.

Do you winch out cars and pickups too, or only trucks?

Both. Cars, pickups and vans that have slid off into mud, snow or a ditch get pulled out with the same care and the appropriate equipment — a rated line on proper attachment points, not a chain around whatever looks solid. The physics are gentler than a loaded semi but the mistakes are the same: pulling from the wrong point or the wrong angle bends things. Tell us what the vehicle is, how far off it went and what it is sitting in, and the right truck comes out.

Can you pull out a semi, dump truck or box truck stuck in mud?

Yes. A truck stuck in mud but otherwise upright and undamaged is a winch-out: the tow truck anchors on firm ground and pulls it back onto a surface that will carry it, day or night. Stop spinning the drive wheels while you wait, because every turn digs the truck deeper and can turn a short pull into a recovery. When you call (816) 888-8732, say whether it is loaded, how far it has sunk and how far it is from pavement. A unit sunk to the frame or leaning over needs more rigging, and we plan that before anything is pulled.

How long does a winch-out take?

The pull itself is usually the short part — most of the time on scene goes into assessing and rigging, because the pull only goes well if the setup did. A straightforward slide-off can be back on the pavement quickly; a loaded unit deep in soft ground takes as long as doing it without damage takes. We give you an honest window on the phone once we know how deep, what surface and whether it is loaded, and we would rather quote the realistic version than the flattering one.

How much does a winch-out or truck recovery cost?

Titan Tow & Repair quotes winch-outs and recoveries per job, not off a rate card. The price follows the assessment and rigging time, the equipment that has to come, how many operators it takes, the ground, and any traffic control the responding agency requires. A shallow slide-off on firm ground is a short job; a unit sunk to the frame or folded becomes a recovery with rigging time, a second unit and often a tow afterward. Tell us how it is lying and you get the price before we roll.

What is a WreckMaster certification and why does it matter?

WreckMaster is the recovery industry’s training and certification program for rigging, load handling and recovery planning. It matters because a recovery is a calculation before it is a pull: the anchor, the angle and the sequence decide whether the unit comes out intact. An unrated pull on the wrong angle can fold a trailer, shift or ruin a load, part a line under tension, or injure the people standing on the shoulder watching it. Certification is the reason we plan a job before anything is hooked.

Do you work with police and DOT at accident scenes?

Yes. We work alongside law enforcement, fire and DOT on highway scenes and follow their direction on lane closures, clearance times and the order things get moved in. On a live scene the agency in charge sets the priorities and we work to them: casualties and traffic flow come before the vehicle, and a recovery sometimes waits for an investigation to finish. If you are a driver at a scene like that, tell us which agency is on it and who is directing the clearance.
