Working the roads in Miami County

Miami County carries the Johnson County road grid south, with somewhat differently named roads, all the way to 407th Street at the Linn County line, but the older routes still matter. Metcalf Avenue, the former US-69, runs south from 215th Street to K-68, and Old Kansas City Road links K-68 with Paola and continues toward Osawatomie. US-169 and K-7 serve Osawatomie in the south-west of the county. The Marais des Cygnes River and Pottawatomie Creek pass on either side of Osawatomie; the 1930 Creamery Bridge over the river and a duplicate bridge over the creek are both on the National Register.

Most of Miami County is rural, with farms growing hay, soybeans and corn and raising cattle, and the Fontana Co-Op stores harvested crops until they go to market, so loaded grain trucks and livestock trailers share the rural roads. The lakes add campers, boat trailers and horse trailers: Hillsdale Lake, the largest, has camping, boating and marked riding trails on its east side, and Louisburg Middle Creek Lake, south of Louisburg on Metcalf, allows fishing boats and camping. On a rural call, give the numbered road, the nearest named road and the closest town, whether Paola, Louisburg, Spring Hill, Osawatomie or Fontana.

Towing service and heavy-duty recovery in Paola, KS

Paola is the county seat, centered on Paola Park Square, where the Victorian gazebo stands near a bust of founders Baptiste Peoria and Mary Ann Isaacs. West Wea Street runs along the square, and Old Kansas City Road leads north from town to K-68. Bull Creek passes just west of Paola, Lake Miola offers camping and water recreation, and the Miami County Fair comes to town each July.

Towing service and heavy-duty recovery in Louisburg, KS

Louisburg sits east of Paola, the county seat, near the Missouri line. K-68 runs through town, meets US-69 on the west side and becomes Missouri Route 2 at the state line. When truck traffic from Missouri on K-68 grew and the state asked for an inspection station, the Little Round House was moved here in the 1930s as a border checkpoint office; it now stands at Louisburg City Lake. The Louisburg Cider Mill and Rutlader Outpost's RV park draw visitors. On K-68, give your direction and whether US-69 is ahead of you or behind.

Towing service and heavy-duty recovery in Osawatomie, KS

Osawatomie lies between the Marais des Cygnes River on its north side and Pottawatomie Creek on its south, on US-169 and K-7. From the Paola side, 327th Street becomes 6th Street at the city limits and leaves south as Plum Creek Road, signed K-7. The state mental hospital, reached by the old Asylum Bridge, and the John Brown Museum State Historic Site are its landmarks. A marker north of 343rd Street, east of Columbia Road, shows how high the river rose in the 1951 flood.

What we can do for you here

Miami County towing — common questions

Can you move a stuck horse trailer from the Hillsdale Lake riding trails?

Yes. Titan Tow & Repair winches out and tows horse trailers and the pickups that pull them, 24 hours a day. Hillsdale Lake, the largest lake in Miami County, has marked riding trails along its east side as well as camping and boating, and a loaded rig parked on wet ground can sink. Tell dispatch which parking area you are in, what the truck and trailer are, whether horses are still aboard, and whether the rig is stuck or broken down. A stuck rig is often a winch-out, not a tow.

Who pulls a loaded grain truck out of a ditch on the way to the Fontana Co-Op?

Titan Tow & Repair does, around the clock, anywhere in Miami County. The county grows hay, soybeans and corn, and farmers haul harvested crops to the Fontana Co-Op for storage, so loaded grain trucks travel the rural roads at harvest. Tell dispatch whether the truck is loaded, whether it is upright and how far it sits off the road, and give the numbered road with the nearest named road. A loaded truck in a ditch is a recovery job, and the load decides how it is rigged.

Who handles a wreck involving a semi on the US-169 and K-7 freeway past Hillsdale and Spring Hill?

Titan Tow & Repair covers accident recovery there at any hour, rolling heavy wreckers and WreckMaster-certified operators out to clear the scene. Past the K-68 interchange, the combined US-169 and K-7 freeway bypasses Hillsdale and then Spring Hill before it becomes an expressway toward Olathe. Tell dispatch your direction, whether K-68 or Spring Hill is nearer, which lanes are blocked and what the trailer carries. Call (816) 888-8732.
