Working the roads in DeKalb County

Two freight corridors cross DeKalb County and meet at Cameron on its south-east edge: I-35, with Cameron's exits 52 and 54, and US-36, which runs east from St. Joseph past Stewartsville and Osborn. Cameron also carries US-69 as Walnut Street and Route 110, the Chicago–Kansas City Expressway. In the north-west, US-169 passes through Union Star on its way to St. Joseph and I-29. Maysville, the county seat, sits in the middle of the county where Route 6 and Route 33 cross, and Route 6 continues east through Weatherby toward the Daviess County line. Route 31 also serves the county.

Between those roads, DeKalb is small towns, creeks and railroad history. Union Star sits on the Third Fork Platte River, Clarksdale on the Little Third Fork, and Grindstone Creek passes south-east of Weatherby. Osborn, on the Clinton County line, got its start with the Hannibal and St. Joseph Railroad, and the county's unincorporated places include Alta Vista, Fairport and Santa Rosa, names worth giving if you are near one. In Cameron, the prefix on a road sign shows which county you are standing in, so read the full name, prefix included. On any numbered highway, give your direction of travel and the last town or junction you passed.

Towing service and heavy-duty recovery in Stewartsville, MO

Stewartsville sits right beside US-36 in the south-west of the county. George Tetherow platted it in 1854 as Tethertown, and it was later renamed for Robert M. Stewart, a former Missouri governor. It has its own Stewartsville C-2 schools, and the Dalton-Uphoff House was listed on the National Register in 1982. The town lies west of Cameron and north of Plattsburg; on US-36, say which way you are headed and whether you have already passed the town.

Towing service and heavy-duty recovery in Clarksdale, MO

Clarksdale lies along the Little Third Fork of the Platte River in south-west DeKalb County. It was platted in 1885 when the railroad was extended to the spot, and named for John F. Clark, who owned the town site; the post office followed in 1886. The small city is south of Union Star and north-east of Agency, inside the Maysville R-I district.

Towing service and heavy-duty recovery in Weatherby, MO

Weatherby is on Route 6 east of Maysville, a short way before the Daviess County line, and was laid out in 1885 by L. H. Weatherby, who gave it his name. Grindstone Creek flows past south-east of the village. Three Serbian Orthodox monasteries share an address on 105th Street here, and the Absolom Riggs House is on the National Register of Historic Places. On Route 6, say which side of Weatherby you are on.

Towing service and heavy-duty recovery in Amity, MO

Just west of Maysville, Amity was platted in 1870 and has had a post office since 1872, and it belongs to the Maysville R-I School District. Cameron lies to the south-east and Union Star to the north-west. There is so little in the village itself that Maysville is the clearer reference: tell dispatch which road you are on and how far out of Maysville you think you are.

DeKalb County towing — common questions

Which road name should I give for a breakdown on the DeKalb County side of Cameron?

Give the full name with its direction prefix, such as Southeast Pence Road or Southeast Rogers Road. Titan Tow & Repair dispatches to both sides of Cameron, and the prefix tells us which county you are in: north of NE Platte/8th Street/County Road 56, DeKalb streets can carry Southeast names, while the Clinton County side uses Northeast numbered streets such as Northeast 358th Street. East of town, Southeast Oregon Road becomes Northwest Oregon Road at the Caldwell County line, so read the name off the nearest sign.

Does a heavy wrecker come as far as Route 6 between Maysville and Weatherby?

Yes, 24 hours a day. Titan Tow & Repair sends a heavy wrecker or the mobile service truck out Route 6, the state route that leaves Maysville eastbound and passes Weatherby on its way toward the Daviess County line. Tell dispatch whether you are nearer Maysville or Weatherby, your direction of travel and what failed. A flat tire, an air leak or a broken belt can often be fixed on the shoulder; a truck that can't be fixed there goes to the garage you choose, loaded or empty.

A semi has lost power on US-36 by Stewartsville. Who should the driver call?

Call Titan Tow & Repair at (816) 888-8732, 24 hours a day. Stewartsville lies alongside US-36, the freight route between St. Joseph and I-35 at Cameron, in the south-west of DeKalb County. Tell dispatch your direction of travel, the last exit, town or crossroad you passed and whether the trailer is loaded. If the truck can be repaired where it stands, the mobile service truck comes out; if not, a heavy wrecker moves tractor and trailer together or separately, whichever the job needs.
